One of the things that are often overlooked when we’re kitting out our 4×4 vehicles is where we’re actually going to put everything.

Storage is not exciting, but it is practical and is a consideration you’re going to want to make if you’re planning to use your 4×4 for anything other than just bombing it over green lanes at the weekend.

Many vehicles are blessed with hefty boot space, of course, but just chucking everything in without a second thought is always going to result in a mess.

Not only that, but when you’re enjoying a little overland travel and it’s getting a little bumpy, even with the best suspension in the world you could end up with your cargo flying all over the place.

The simple and elegant solution here is to install a drawer system in your boot. These systems are available for the vast majority of popular 4×4 makes and models and can be used for a variety of purposes, including, but not limited to the following:

Vets

For veterinarians, particularly those who regularly have to make outcalls to working farms, a ride that can safely transport medicines and medical equipment is an absolute must.

A 2 drawer storage system, such as the modular system by ARB, is a hard-wearing solution that can be configured to any specification.

Emergency response

For an emergency response vehicle, similar considerations need to be taken into account and, as such, the ARB 2 drawer storage system is once again an ideal choice.

Not only are these systems allow for stackable drawers to fit more supplies, if needed, but they are topped with water-resistant carpeting and are formed from marine-grade wood. This is serious stuff for serious work.

Security

For off-roaders who value their cargo and might be driving through areas where thieves are waiting in the shadows to take their fill, drawer systems can be locked tight, adding another layer of protection for your gear and belongings.

These are crash-tested systems that can also be segregated by drawer dividers to create smaller compartments, so are completely customisable to your specific needs.

Eating out

Have you ever been in the middle of a grand off-road adventure and thought the only thing that could make it better is a cold drink?

Thankfully, drawer systems can be outfitted with fridge slides that create a neat little cool box for all your drinks and snacks.

There is also the option of a stainless steel sliding table that can be comfortably affixed to the drawer system, creating a makeshift table that can be pulled out whenever the mood takes you.

All of these systems are simple to install and will have a significant impact on the flexibility of your 4×4

So, whether you use yours for business or pleasure, a drawer system could be the deceptively useful upgrade your 4×4 has been crying out for.
