It’s no secret that we believe everyone needs a 4×4 in their lives. The reliable traction, elevated driving position, capacity for space and storage, towing power, and not to mention incredible off-road capability make 4x4s great vehicles to own and drive.

If you’re already reaping these rewards as a proud 4×4 owner, you may consider purchasing a new 4×4 when your current vehicle begins to look and feel a little worn out. Upgrading your existing 4×4 instead of replacing it however is what we’d recommend, here’s why…

1. Enjoy improved reliability

The lifespan of modern vehicles pales in comparison to older off-road trucks. The old school toughness and construction of more time-served makes and models mean many of these 4x4s are pretty much unstoppable.

4x4s that go back to basics still excel when pitted against the complex, electronic reliant modern vehicles providing improved reliability and performance for the long term. In fact, the greatest 4x4s of all time are all older models.

2. Reap the environmental benefits

Contrary to popular belief, keeping your existing vehicle can reap many more environmental benefits than buying new as Study Finds explains:

“The results reveal that if car owners keep their vehicles on the road 10 per cent longer before sending them to the scrapyard, the overall carbon footprint of cars would decrease by 30.7 million tons. That’s the equivalent of a one per cent decrease in CO2 emissions. Researchers say the reason for this is manufacturing new vehicles actually produces more greenhouse gases than continuing to drive existing cars — even if they use gasoline.”

3. Access a wider range of upgrades

When upgrading your 4×4, the possibilities are endless! With the right upgrades, you can fall in love with your 4×4 all over again as well as enhance your on- and off-road experience. You may also be surprised to find that sometimes there can be a wider choice of upgrades for an older vehicle that has been on the market for a longer time than a newly released model.

By upgrading your suspension, underbody protection and bumpers, you can unlock a more reliable, safer and exciting way to drive off-road. The addition of new winches can make emergency recovery should the worst happen simple and straightforward without compromising your 4×4’s aesthetic appearance.

New brakes and clutches can increase the safety and quality of your ride further. Whilst the integration of a new roof rack, awning or rooftop tent can make life off-road even sweeter, and much more convenient and comfortable.

4. Avoid the expense of buying new

The cost of a new 4×4 is often too much to swallow, and with the prices of second-hand vehicles reaching record highs, replacing your existing 4×4 is likely to leave you significantly out of pocket.

With used car prices continuing to soar, your existing 4×4 or pickup is probably worth more than ever, which means it’s well worth spending money on! By upgrading your existing 4×4, you’re not only making your driving experience better, but you’ll also be protecting your investment and increasing its potential resale value.
