After several years of establishing himself in California, and along the way having found customers including Meyer, Keystone, NAPA, Trans American and Ford, Gerry and his team exhibited at the 2005 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Alongside the triumph of presenting his flagship SuperSprings product to the world market, he came across a material which he had not previously worked with: microcellular polyurethane. This opened up the engineering possibilities of suspension spring helpers to include vehicles fitted with coil springs. While looking for a name for the new product, Lamberti settled on the name of one of his favourite pastimes – watching sumo wrestling on TV. The SumoSpring was born.
As an existing supplier to the US Border Guard, SuperSprings were soon able to supply and install over 3,000 sets of SumoSprings to border patrol trucks. These vehicles were driven hard and fast, pursuing illegal border crossings and apprehending smuggled drugs and other contraband. The product was a huge success, with vehicle ride and stability improvements and zero warranty returns. Famously, one US agent even jammed a screwdriver right through his SumoSprings and then left it in there for days, with zero impact to performance.
By the early 2000s, SumoSprings were becoming increasingly in-demand with motorhome builders. These vehicles would often be heavily converted and the extra weight would have a marked effect on suspension performance, which could be mitigated by added SumoSprings without having any adverse affect on handling or suspension durability. Manufacturers including Winnebago, Tiffin, Coachmen and Thor started to fit SumoSprings to their new models as standard equipment when they saw the comfort and safety benefits of the product.
Today, SuperSprings and SumoSprings products can be found under a huge number of vehicles worldwide, from Sprinter and Transit vans to Hilux, Ranger and many more. With solutions available for hundreds of US, European and international vehicle models and a lifetime warranty, SuperSprings offer simple, low-tech, durable products for both leisure and commercial users.
