Filter byStinger Solutions, formerly known as AAMP Global, was founded in 1987 in Clearwater, Florida, USA. Whilst Stinger are best known for their high end in car entertainment systems, the company has been responsible for many innovations in both the consumer and commercial markets.
Early on, the company focused on developing safety technology for commercial vehicles, including EchoMaster. AAMP Global were one of the pioneers of smartphone connectivity with their iSimple products. As in-car entertainment systems developed and became more popular, the company increasingly devoted their time to developing interfaces and integration packages. Brands such as Phoenix Gold, Autoleads and PAC were established and grew to be recognised players in the north American market.
Later, Stinger was launched as a high-end car audio brand. Quickly, the brand found favour in the car modding fraternity, thanks to their highly customisable and innovative products. In the enthusiast market, it is important to offer a balance between cutting-edge features and premium sound and visual quality, and Stinger concentrated on meeting these demands in a way that the global big-box brands could not.
By the early 21st century, in-car entertainment had evolved from the humble mono AM radio to a navigation, visual and entertainment device, and the big car manufacturers had honed their products to include a high degree of vehicle integration. Gone were the days when a consumer could visit their local auto parts store and purchase a standard DIN-sized unit with just a cassette or CD player; every car seemed to have a different size and shape of entertainment system and these systems were increasingly merged with the vehicle’s own functionality. Steering wheel controls, on-board cameras, microphones, touch-screens with navigation software and gauges had become the norm as every vehicle builder sought to offer the best user interface.
Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto have somewhat standardised the market, and have taken control of both navigation and entertainment. Gone is the CD player in many cars and this is replaced by MP3 streaming or DAB radio. One thing which has not remained standardised is the physical format of in car entertainment or infotainment units, and this fact does present a significant challenge when developing an aftermarket solution.
Stinger have developed world-class multimedia systems, such as the HEIGH10 product range, and then worked on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis to engineer adapters, interfaces, display bezels and more. As a market leader, Stinger realise that it is essential to retain factory functionality and to enable vital on-board tech such as parking sensors and multi-camera systems.
Finally, Stinger have made it possible to build on the often inadequate OEM entertainment features and to offer something more immersive, better sounding, and more user friendly.
