Filter byOryx Solutions was founded in Hann. Munden, Germany, in 2021 by Florian Töpperwien. Already a veteran in the automotive world, Töpperwien had a passion for van life and overland travel and many ideas and innovations already to his name.
As Töpperwien had noted, the overlanding and motorhome markets were exploding with new products and new van builders, but the largest part of the market continued to be self-conversions of panel vans such as the Sprinter and Crafter. Typically, an end user buys a van and tries to plan out their build, using home DIY tools and materials from their local DIY store. However, as so many van owners know due to bitter experience, this path has its pitfalls.
Building your own cabinets and fittings sounds fine, but in practice it is difficult to do well and planning a practical and useful build is hard to do without a great deal of research. Templating and cutting is hard to do with home tooling and the whole process is very time consuming with many builds taking 6 months or more of evening and weekend time to complete. Even then, the majority of self-builds we see are frankly less than impressive.
To solve this problem, Töpperwien developed a range of CNC-cut furniture for models including the Sprinter, Transporter T5 and T6, Crafter, Defender, Wrangler and more. After heavily investing in a dedicated production facility in central Germany, and then acquiring various vehicles to study and develop prototypes for, Oryx Solutions had settled on a modular design and had a product which was unique in the market. The core of the range consisted of complete model-specific van kits, with pre-built units and high quality fittings throughout, but which in many cases can be fitted very quickly and easily and even removed with ease to allow the van to be used for work or other uses when not set up as a motorhome.
It was no surprise that the Oryx range was a huge success from the start, with kits selling all over Europe. A variety of finishes is offered, most commonly great, white or black PVC units built from birch ply. Unlike many home-built solutions, Oryx units are lightweight, designed to flex with the van, perfectly fitting and intelligently designed to maximise usefulness to a wide range of users.
Other famous Oryx products include roof conversions for the Defender with a roof tent-style sleeping space at roof height, body protection, lighting, devices and gadgets for so many uses. The end result is an easy to install and easy to use product range, offered at a surprisingly reasonable cost and manufactured in-house at Oryx Germany. Most of the products in the Oryx range cannot be found elsewhere.
Here at 4×4 Works, we are delighted to be the exclusive UK import partner of Oryx Solutions. We can supply the entire product range and also offer spare parts, technical advice, installation and more. Many customer have found that an Oryx conversion can be purchased for similar cost to doing a self-build, but with a huge time saving and a beautiful and practical end result.
