When building a camping or overland rig, or just for day to day use, we all have smaller items which need to live in the vehicle but don’t have a specific place to be stored. Almost without exception, the cavity inside a vehicle tailgate or rear door is wasted as it is covered by a fixed panel.
Australian off road experts Huracan Fabrication have developed a clever and practical storage system wnich converts the tailgate internal space into a useable storage locker. With durable hinges, a hardwearing finish, recessed latches and protection for the inside of the tailgate, the tailgate can be used as before including for standing on or loading the vehicle, whilst housing a clever and hidden storage space.
With laser cut sections and a durable black powder coat finish, this new space is great for tools, spare parts, utensils, recovery gear and more. Installation requires removing some material from your tailgate, but easy to follow instructions are provided and this can be done with an angle grinder or jigsaw. Sound absorbing foam is included to prevent any noises and to protect the inside of the tailgate.
With this vehicle model, the weight of the tailgate will feel heavy once the Tailgate Storage unit is installed due to the factory tailgate torsion bar design. As an option, Huracan Fabrications have developed a replacement torsion bar which is sold separately. Fitting this upgrade will reduce the tailgate handling feel from about 11kg to around 2.5kg.
